Pottery Marks: Porcelain ID ("the App") is published by Bulpara Inc ("we", "us", "our"). The short version: when you scan a mark, the photo goes, without its location data, to our server and on to two AI services, OpenAI and Google (through Replicate), which read the mark. We never store the photo. Your history stays on your phone. There is no account, and no ads, analytics or tracking.
1. Photos
Before your first scan the App asks for your consent and names who receives the photo. When you scan, the App:
- resizes the photo and removes its metadata, including GPS location, on your phone;
- sends it to our server, which passes it in the same moment to OpenAI (GPT-6.1 Sol) and to Replicate, which runs Google's Gemini 3 Flash model, so both can read the mark;
- never writes the photo to our storage. It exists on our server only in memory while the two reads run.
OpenAI processes it under its API terms: it does not train on API data, and it may keep request logs for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring. Replicate and Google process it to return the reading, under their own terms for paid API use. We send no name, account or location with the photo.
Please photograph the mark, not people. The App asks the models only about the mark.
2. Results
Each reading (the maker, a transcription of the mark's text, the date range and the pattern) is held in our server's memory for up to 10 minutes so the App can collect it, then dropped. Our server's logs record the maker and the cost of each reading, never the photo.
3. Data stored on your phone
- Your history: each result and a small copy of the photo you scanned, kept in the App's storage.
- Corrections you make to a maker's name.
- Preferences, your consent choice, and a random ID the App creates (see section 4).
Delete a scan in History, or everything in Settings → Delete All Scans. Deleting the App deletes all of it.
4. Free answers and subscriptions
To give each device its 3 free answers, the App sends a random ID it keeps in your phone's Keychain. Our server stores only a one-way hash of it, with a count. It doesn't identify you.
If you subscribe, the App sends the App Store's signed record of your subscription so our server can confirm it with Apple and count answers against the monthly fair-use limit. The count is kept against a one-way hash of the subscription's ID. Apple sells and processes subscriptions; we never see your name, Apple ID or payment details.
5. Who processes your data
- OpenAI and Replicate / Google read the photo (section 1).
- Our server host runs the server that handles the App's requests, and a store for the free-answer and fair-use counts.
- Apple provides App Store purchases.
Data may be processed in the United States and other countries. Like any server, ours sees your IP address when the App connects; it uses it only, in memory, to limit request rates.
6. No analytics, ads or tracking
The App contains no analytics, advertising SDKs, crash reporters or third-party trackers, and shows no ads. We don't track you across apps or websites, and we don't sell or share your data.
7. Links
"Check sold prices" and "Compare marks" open eBay and Google searches in your browser, with the maker and pattern as the search terms. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
8. Children
The App asks for no names, email addresses or accounts, and it is not directed at children under 13.
9. Your choices
You can withdraw consent in Settings (scanning stops until you agree again), delete your history at any time, or email us about any data we hold.
10. Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date, and if the services that read your photo change, the App will ask for your consent again.
